Each square is one hour of the week. Darker squares are cheaper, brighter squares are more expensive. Hover any square to see the average fee rate and what a standard transfer would have cost. Switch between My time and UTC depending on whether you're planning around your own schedule or comparing against on-chain data, which is usually quoted in UTC.
The numbers here are averages over recent weeks, not a live fee oracle. Use them to pick a good window — then check the current rate in your wallet before you actually sign.

- Which chain benefits most from timing your transaction?
- Bitcoin, by a wide margin. Its fee rate routinely swings 3–5x within a single day, and a transfer costs cents-to-dollars rather than fractions of a cent — so the same percentage swing is real money. Ethereum is second. On Arbitrum and Base the difference is usually too small to be worth waiting for.
- When are Bitcoin fees cheapest?
- Weekends and the early-morning UTC hours are typically the quietest, because fee pressure tracks when people in the US and Europe are awake and transacting. The heatmap above shows the actual recent pattern rather than a rule of thumb.
- When is Ethereum gas cheapest?
- Weekends are consistently quietest, and mid-week the early-morning and late-night UTC hours tend to be cheapest. The cheapest window drifts as network activity changes, which is why this map is rebuilt from recent data rather than fixed.
- Why is the Arbitrum and Base map so flat?
- Because gas on those chains genuinely is cheap and steady around the clock. That's not a gap in the data — it's the honest answer, and it means timing your transaction on an L2 saves you very little.
- Why isn't XRP, Solana or Cardano here?
- XRP, Cardano, Stellar and Hedera charge fees that are fixed or near-fixed by protocol design, so a day-by-hour map would be uniformly flat and tell you nothing. Solana's priority fees do vary meaningfully, but it needs a non-EVM data source with hourly history, which we haven't added yet. Tokens like LINK, UNI and AAVE aren't separate chains at all — sending them pays Ethereum gas, already covered by the Ethereum tab.
- Where does the data come from?
- Hourly Bitcoin fee rates from btcbench, and hourly gas prices for the EVM chains from the Owlracle API, aggregated into a day-of-week by hour-of-day average and refreshed daily. USD figures apply the current price of each chain's gas token to a standard transfer.
